16th Fintech Talks goes Digital Currencies

Outlook and potential of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) technology: Impacts and opportunities in the design and management of regulatory frameworks and payment ecosystems.

At the 16th Fintech Talks, we welcome Mr. Georgios Samakovitis, Professor of Banking and Financial Technology (FinTech), School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, University of Greenwich, London. Mr. Samakovitis will present the initiatives in adopting worldwide Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), the list of which is constantly expanding, with the participation of over 134 central banks in March 2024 (instead of just 35 in 2020). The range of these developments marks the tech maturation of CBDCs, but also calls for a more thorough practical research of both their operational potential and their impact on the technological and operational infrastructures of the financial system concerned.

The meeting is taking place in the context of events run by Smart Attica EDIH. It will be held on Thursday, 4 April at 18:00, at the Panteion University, Room B3 (New Building, 2nd floor), Leoforos Syggrou 136, 17671.

Seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Sign up here.
